Dangerous Men

Congratulations, Legionnaires. Lesson Two has two parts.

Lesson Two

This, therefore, is a faded dream of the time when I went down into the dust and noise of the Eastern market-place, and with my brain and muscles, with sweat and constant thinking, made others see my visions coming true. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that all was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible.

Security

Just a heads up...

There's been a few reports of a user attempting to infect users systems with trojans, keyloggers, etc.  Basically, remember to keep some common sense when it comes to installing mods: avoid running any .exe files, don't automatically click on website links posted, only accept files from people you trust, etc.

If anyone approaches you and asks you to download a file or visit a questionable, unknown website, notify your friendly neighborhood Seymour immediately.

Public Test Going Live

It's been a few months since we released the unlocked version of the game on the public test channel, and today it's time to finish that process and push our changes to live servers. Over the next couple of hours I'll be pushing the public test updates to live, and updating servers to go along with it.

As explained in a previous blog post, this means the following changes will occur today:

  • Authentication server will be shut down
  • All servers will allow any player to use any name they want
  • Teams registered on the account management area will be removed

For now, you'll still need to login to use the Legions Launcher to keep your game patched and updated, however at a later date we'll be releasing an updated version which removes this requirement.

There are various changes which makes this game incompatible with the previous version of live, if you encounter any problems we recommend the following:

  • Delete live/legions/preferences/config.cs and live/legions/preferences/prefs.cs, as well as the .dso versions - and try again
  • Delete your entire live directory and let the launcher download a fresh copy without any modified files

If your friends aren't aware of these changes, please point them to this blog post and explain that they may need to delete their live directory to get a fresh install of the game.

Public Test Update

An update has been pushed out to the public-test channel, so anyone running a server might want to ensure they've downloaded the latest version.

Genesis has been added to the map list, bolt has been tweaked a fair bit, warp damage has been increased by 5, keybindings have been updated. There might be a few other things I've missed, but it's about time we got this update out to live - so please test this patch!

Extended Hotswap Downtime

We'd like to apologise to all our US users who are unable to play on any Hotswap servers as they've been down a few days, but you probably know this already!

I'm currently trying my best to get these servers back up and running, but unfortunately dealing with our incompetent server provider seems to be very time consuming task.

Goodbye Atlas and Prometheus

After about a year of service, it's time to say goodbye to the [JP] Atlas and [SG] Prometheus servers.

Both of these servers had limited usage, and we don't have the funds to continue running them with no players covering the costs. It's simply not viable to continue to run these.

With the public test client being able to host games, and players being able to run their own servers on public test - we encourage players in the region to host their own servers. These changes will soon be pushed to our live channel and will become the default game client for players.

January 2012 Content Update

Alright, Legionnaires, a significant new content update is now available on Public Test that brings a slew of new features to Legions: Overdrive!

Note: To prevent any issues with the new content and old content, please DELETE your previous Public-Test folder. This can be found in the directory you saved Legions: Overdrive to. Right-click your 'public-test' folder and choose delete.

New Core Types

Regen Core

This Core, when activated, will restore some of your life over a short duration at the cost of energy and a cooldown between uses.

Warp Core

The Warp Core will warp a player back in time three seconds to their previous velocity, position, and rotation at the cost of health and a cooldown between uses. When a player warps, a blue Warp Scar is created for a few seconds allowing Warp Core equipped players to follow the warped player through the blue scar. Flag carriers will be unable to warp. Any player who enters a Warp Scar will have their velocity set equal to the velocity of the Warp Scar creator when they exited. If a player gets hit by Insant Overdrive from a Sentinel player before they start the Warp buildup process, their Warp core will be temporarily disabled.

Custom Loadouts

A long promised feature, and now a necessity with the addition of the new Core types, is the introduction of Custom Loadouts. You'll now have the ability to choose your armour type, weapons (armour restrictions apply), hand grenade type, and Core type. Label and save your loadout configurations for easy in-game switching. You will find a new bind to bring up the loadout menu in-game.

Loadout selection

New Administrative Features

To help ease the administration of servers, new controls were added for server admins to better assist their players (or toy with them relentlessly).

Mute

Allows an admin to mute any player's voice commands.

Timeout

The timeout feature places the player in the center of the map a few hundred meters in the air and freezes them. They cannot shoot nor commit suicide in this state. They can only return to the game if other players shoot them down, or if an admin clicks the timeout button again which will send them cratering into the ground.

Summon Prometheus

Prometheus could not idle on the sidelines any longer and makes his triumphant return to Legions! As punishment for in-game trolling, unleash the Prometheus to restore Order and Balance to your game server.

Server Announcements

Admins now have the ability to make server wide announcements on their server typing the "/admin a Your message here" command into the chat box. There are also a few other commands such as "yell", "praise", "seduce" and "decree" that you would also execute by typing "/admin command Your message here".

Server Creation Screen Updates

The in-game server creation page has been improved for player hosted servers. You can now set the server password, admin password, server status to public or private, and the host is now automatically logged in as an admin when the server is created.

Weapon Changes

Blaster

Our art team has completed the first new weapon model for Legions: Overdrive. Now properly ignite your foes using the new Blaster! Alongside the new model, the weapon itself has been tweaked to make it a bit more efficient in combat. It now has the same muzzle velocity and inheritance of the rocket launcher with a slight increase in damage as well.

Mortar

The mortar explosion radius has been reduced a bit. Mortar projectiles will no longer explode on contact with a player unless its 1.5 second arming timer is up. These changes should hopefully promote more skillful play with the mortar.

The update!

Update Reminder!

Please set your Legions: Overdrive launcher to download the new public-test (ensuring to delete the previous public-test folder) and give the new features a try. Be sure to visit the Legions: Overdrive forum to voice your feedback on the new content and report any Bugs/Issues that are found.
