Unlocked Game on Public Test

On the public test channel you'll now find an updated version of Legions which is unlocked - it can act as a server to host your own games.

Our developers have updated quite a few files, so this version is incompatible with the live version. We've got quite a few updated assets, a new Legions.exe file (with an updated icon - finally!), the server scripts needed, and various other little things updated.

We've got [US] Public Test running CTF to allow you to test the public test channel with one of our servers. We're not planning on running any other public test servers - as the more interesting thing with this update is the ability for you to host your own games.

Please note that whilst we've pushed this for testing - our support for this is currently minimal. We've still got quite a bit of work to do to improve the configuration and setup of the game, and this may still take a couple of weeks before we're happy to push these changes to live servers.

So, have fun giving this update a test!

Updated CTF Map Rotation

The CTF map rotation which was originally tested on [DE] shazbot.eu servers has now been applied to servers in all other regions.

All of the old large maps only servers have been shut down due to the low number of players on them, however players keen on these maps will soon be able to play on their own servers if they want to continue to play them.

Updated CTF Map Rotation on Shazbot Servers

I've removed CTF #2 for the Euro servers, and the remaining CTF #1 has been given a new map rotation:

Map name - map weight (min players - max players)

FrostByte - 1.0 (0-18 players)
Nivosus - 0.8 (0-12 players)
Moonshine - 0.6 (0-14 players)
Zenith Cauldron - 0.9 (16-20 players)
Fallout - 0.9 (16-20 players)
Stygian - 0.2 (16-20 players)
Elegiac - 0.6 (14-20 players)
Gorge - 0.5 (14-20 players)

Feedback is welcome on this new map rotation, please give your thoughts on the forums. This map rotation will be applied to other servers if players are happy with it.

Hotswap Down Again

Due to more technical difficulties, this server is currently down again. Until we're able to do something with it - please use other Legions servers.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hotswap Down

Due to technical problems, all Hotswap servers and TS3 are currently down.

Until the situation is resolved, we advise players to use other game servers.

Update: Hotswap is back up, we're keeping a close eye on it though!

Unlocking Legions - Upcoming Changes

Since the start of Legions: Overdrive it's been our intention to address player hosted servers at some point, however we wanted it on our terms. We wanted a solution which allowed players to host servers, but for us to still have secure control over accounts, so we could offer registered nicknames, teams, and other features which could be added over time.

After quite a few discussions between the dev team, we've decided to change our plans. We'll be unlocking the game, allowing full server functionality for end users, however this comes at a slight cost.

No Accounts Required

The game will no longer require accounts to play the game, this means that:

  • All players will be able to pick any name they want, however they won't be protected.
  • Team registration will no longer exist.
  • Account registration will be deactivated.

We realise that this may remove certain features which players like, however we now feel that releasing the server code is more important - allowing players to host their own games and modders to tweak the game as they want is better than keeping things locked down for longer.

What Happens Next?

Our announcement is slightly premature, as we still need to put this plan in action!

We'll need to spend some time reworking the scripts to remove our authentication system, both client and server side. We need our own central banning system for official servers, to ensure abusive players remain banned from all servers instead of dealing with them on a server by server basis.

Our patching system will also need an update at some point, however this can be updated at some point in the future. We can still leave accounts running until a replacement is ready.

We'll also be reducing the number of servers in places where they're no longer viable to run. We'll still be running official servers, however players can host their own games or run their own servers in the areas not served by an official server.

Any questions? Let us know what you think on the forums.

Weapons Update Now Live

The weapons update previously found on public test servers has been pushed to live.

We know this update has been lingering for quite a while on public test servers, although we're fairly happy with the weapons themselves and believe it belongs in the future Legions gameplay - the current user interface is currently not up to the standards we expect this game to have.

So even though loadout support isn't ready, I've pushed the changes to live servers. Hopefully in a future update we'll have a better UI for loadouts to make things easier, but until then it's not in the best interest of the game to have 2 different versions running in parallel - this wasn't what public test was for.

So, enjoy the update!

Summer Extravaganza Tournament Winner: Trippin Nutz

We here on the development side of Legions: Overdrive would like to congratulate the winners of this summers pickup-style tournament winners Trippin Nutz led by Envy. The following players participated in the final match to help bring their team to victory on frostbyte (9-3): Envy, Mabel, U8er, Kissy, Severance, Jago, Ammunition and n33d for w33d. You can message ucantry2run your paypal to collect your winnings or tell him what you would like him to do with your share of the winnings. Great job guys!

Also, i would like to thank ucantry2run specifically for helping me setup the rules for this tournament and putting out the initial cash prize to have this setup up. Thank you kind sir. Without you, this tournament would not have made it to its full potential. And another big thanks to the community out there for such a big turnout of 79 players! And a good 60+ players ended up showing for the opening matches, which that in itself is an awesome turnout for the game. You guys are awesome and with all the fun we all had, look out for another tournament!

A few weapon sounds and buff

After some testing by us and the community, we have buffed a few weapons. Some sound effects happened to come down the pipes as well, so we tossed them in.

Mortar - New explosion art and sound

Plasma - Overheats a bit slower, slightly increased accuracy, and new firing sounds

Cluster - Doubled the amount of cluster bombs on detonation and increased the max damage by 10%

Grenade Launcher - Slowed the rate of fire a tad

Boost Grenade - Larger explosion radius (not combos) to help a bit more for knocking players and flag interceptions.
